This post should probably be saved for Mother’s Day…but my friend Tonee recently reminded me of it, and its just to funny not to share (sorry B…).

I think BethAnn & I were about 8 & 9.  It was Mother’s Day.  Being the thoughtful daughter she was, she wanted to bake mom a cake.  What doesn’t say Happy Mother’s Day, YOU’RE THE BEST, like a cake?  Nothing…honestly…nothing.  Since I was selfish not thoughtful, I thought it was brilliant & I’d help.  It can totally be from both of us….right?

Sarah, with much pleading, was a really kind older sister, with an awesome car and drove us to Randall Foods for some mix.  After much deliberation (no joke….decision making is not one of B’s finer attributes), she decided on fun-fetti.  Mother’s Day was getting better…not only did she get a cake, but FUN-FETTI cake.  Lucky gal.

After the grocery store, Sarah drove over to London Mall & got out to look at plants.  I’m not sure why, maybe she was getting mom a plant?  I remember Sarah saying, as she locked us in the car “B, don’t touch your cake mix until we get home…you can’t even take it out of the box”.  And this is where B had a lapse in judgement (which was rare…).  She took the cake mix out of the box.  OH.MY.GAWSH.  She’s breaking the rules!

C: B..put that away, sarah said not to fiddle with it (I was never one for following the rules…what made me think we should now?).

B: C, its ok, I won’t break the bag or anything.

*B takes the bag of mix out of its little box, and then starts hitting me w/ it.*

C: B…stop!  You’re going to make a mess

B: No I’m not…BAM! *cake mix explodes all over back of car*

I think we stared at each other for a good 10 seconds in total disbelief & “oh..crap…what are we going to do now?…we’re in SO much trouble…and sarah will probably never take us anywhere again…oh…crap”  I think we tried to scoop it back up & put it back in the bag.

The ride home was long and quiet, minus B’s tears.  Not only was she in BIG trouble w/ Sarah, but her mother’s day surprise (did I mention it was a suprise?) of fun-fetti cake was ruined.  Absolutely.ruined.  And absolutely everywhere in the backseat of Sarah’s really nice car.

We did attempt to clean it up, but I remember her using a wet rag…before we vacuumed.  AHH!  An even bigger mess.  I offered to ride my bike to the Mega Mart to get her a new box, but I think the fiasco tainted her excitement about Mom’s cake.

I have no idea what we did instead.  Maybe this was a year where “it’s the thought that counts” was just going to have to do?

Mom…I think we owe you one.

Oh Deer!!

July 25th, 2011

I’m not sure why, but some of the best conversations between Matt & I come while at breakfast or to/from breakfast. Yesterday, as we’re driving away from our favorite breakfast spot, in “uptown” (i.e. upper downtown where it is more residential than commercial downtown, but very “urban”).

C: Ohh…look at the drama over there…it requires TWO police cars w/ lights.

M: I wonder what’s going on?

C: I’ll gawk, you drive.

C: Oh!  Deer!

M: What???  That doesn’t explain the situation, can you elaborate.

Hits breaks to let deer cross street while police cars chase w/ lights on

M: Oh….DEER!   Not Oh Dear!

Self Titled "Urban Deer"

Matt assured me the officers were just chasing the deer to try & contain them until Animal Control could come & relocate them to the mountains..not to make the venison jerky.

Its a girl – not oatmeal

July 19th, 2011

Thankfully BethAnn delivered a healthy & beautiful little girl yesterday…not oatmeal (like Matt once thought).  Allison Jean Riewestahl was born last night at 8:31 pm weighing in at a hearty 8lbs even.  Allison & I share the same middle name.  I’m vain & like to think she was named after her amazing Aunt Catie, but […]

Watch out boys…she’s going to be a heart breaker.

I wont lie, becoming an Auntie to beautiful nieces & nephews NEVER gets old.  Now I have one more cute nugget to love up on when I go back to Eau Claire (that happens in approximately 3 weeks!!).

I had the opportunity this weekend to have dinner (a 3 hour dinner!) with my Uncle Howard.  He was in Colorado Springs for a Conference.  Fortunately, he requested Mexican food for dinner (one of our favorites).  Unfortunately, we aren’t familiar w/ Colorado Springs enough to know where a good one is.  So what does a girl do?  She goes to her best friends Google & Yelp.  The restaurant I chose ended up being just OK.  I personally think it was a disappointment & bland, but Howard insisted it wasn’t.  I guess anything’s a step up from Central WI Mexican food.  I have promised him next time he’s in Denver I will bring him someplace amazing – we have about 4 great Mexican places to chose from.

I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner with Howard.  He’s an uncle I don’t know that well, but he did marry us (thank you again.!)  He filled Matt & I in on the Hintzman Family History.  Howard is my mom’s youngest brother (out of 7 brothers…yeesh!).  That is one thing Howard & I have in common and take much pride in – being the youngest.  We tried to enlighten Matt (the oldest in his family) on why the youngest is so important (we’re cute, fun, keep life interesting, the world couldn’t function with out us, etc.)…but I don’t know that he bought it.  Or maybe, he was just jealous of us.  Regardless, being the youngest is ideal.

Stay the youngest Howard!!!

As a kid – 4th Of July was amazing.  The excitement I held for it was about equal to the excitement of Christmas.  Some of my best memories are from the 4th Of July.

The Kleist’s always knew how to throw a party.  But I will admit, without the help of Stacy, BethAnn, Susie, & I, their party wouldn’t be as awesome.  The 4 of us girls spent months counting down to the party.  B & Stacy would make special rice krispie bars – the US flag complete with stars & food coloring.  Susie & I would decorate & help with the food.  My mom always made her “Snicker & Apple Salad”.  Larry grilled brats & burgers.  The pool was open & happening.  All the neighborhood families were there.  Larry & Dad would bring the cars down to Hobbs early that day – to ensure a front row seat to the fireworks.  Even when it rained, the day was perfect.

To this day, 4th Of July is one of my favorite times of year.  Who doesn’t love great food & fireworks?  If you don’t, you are no friend of mine.

Now the weekend got even better, as Matt & I celebrate our Anniversary on the 3rd.  You really can’t go wrong.  There are always fireworks somewhere to be watched & you never have to go to work the day after – and you can usually watch more fireworks then too!

This year, for our first anniversary, we had a jam packed 4 day weekend.  I wouldn’t have done anything different.  Friday night we spent at the Rockie’s baseball game.  It was a DELIGHTFUL evening – the sun went behind a cloud so we didn’t bake and the temperature was nice.  After the game there was a huge fireworks display, which, as always, didn’t disappoint.

Saturday we went to breakfast & spent the majority of the day driving to all the bike shops in town testing out road bikes.

Sunday was our anniversary.  Again, went to breakfast, test out a few more bikes, went to a movie, played tennis, then enjoyed an amazing dinner at The Capitol Grille.  The problem w/ the Capitol Grille is the food is all so delicious.  By the time the meal actually comes, you’ve filled up on all the bread & yummy appetizers and there is no room for dinner.  Needless to say, we have a lot of leftovers!

Monday was more relaxing.  We picked Lucy up from the Kennel.  This is pretty much all she’s done since she got in the car & has been home.  Poor pup is exhausted – to much fun at the kennel.

Happy 4th Of July everyone!  & Happy Anniversary Matt!!!
