Update on The Price Is Right – we went & it was AWESOME.  Matt even made it up onto Contestant Row – I think I might have been just as excited as if they called my name.  Unfortunately some grandma outbid him on an iPod surround sound stereo thing…so all he got was a T-shirt.  I haven’t taken the t-shirt off since, except to shower.  I wear it under my work clothes, to bed, etc.

Tomorrow marks only 3 WEEKS until Christmas.  Oh the joy!  I love Christmas.  Unfortunately, I think I’m a total Christmas fail this year….  My house is to small to put up my tree, which is a disappointment in itself (note to self…next house must have large jetted tub, king sized bed, living room big enough for tree & storage).  Fortunately, I haven’t let my small house deter me…I just decorate the outside instead.  I like to have my lights turned on Thanksgiving evening, but this year we were in Vegas.  I just kept telling myself “one week late won’t hurt, you can put them up next weekend”.  I looked at the weather today – its supposed to be cold & snowy this weekend.  Matt mentioned last night that we maybe wouldn’t be able to put lights up this weekend and I almost had a full on melt down.  I hope the weather man is a liar & its a bit nicer so I can hang my lights.  I knew I should have put my lights on the house in October when I started getting into the Christmas Spirit….

BLACK FRIDAY

Black Friday seriously has me worked.  Being in Vegas, I won’t be able to partake, which makes me feel like I’m missing out, and kind of overwhelms me.  But the most ridiculous part about this is I DON’T NEED ANYTHING that’s on sale for Black Friday.  I just hate missing out on a good deal…I love a good deal…and there seems to be PLENTY on Black Friday.

As we arrived at our hotel, we passed the Fashion Place Mall, and I thought “i wonder what Friday will be like there…I should go”.  But seriously…that would be pointless.  last year we bought toilet paper on Black Friday – let’s not forget!

Also,  Vegas works me too.  We come here with a plan and some things to do, and it all sounds awesome.  Then we get here and there are flashing bright lights that say “Catie, come visit me here”.  When every building (including De Ja Vu Love outside our window) is screaming that at you, it seems like I’ll never see all there is to see here.  *sighs*.  I don’t even want to go to DeJa Vu Love, but the bright lights seems so inviting.  I’m going to stick w/ our plan of the hoover dam, football, & price is right.

Now that the Holiday’s are fastly approaching *squeals of joy* I need to make my Grandma Elizabeth’s apple pie (its amazing, I want to make it all year, but for my waistline’s sake, I save it only for the holiday’s).    I used to hate pie, until she turned me onto the ways of apple pie.  For that Grandma, my taste buds thank you.

After she passed away, my mom gave me stacks of her old recipes.  Some she wrote herself (anyone good at deciphering her writing?), some she clipped from newspapers & magazines, & some she stole from her friends & family.  I thought for sure I had her pie recipe written down in my trusty family recipe book, but I couldn’t find it.   And even though I have been through the big stack of recipes a million times, and have written down all the important ones, I still went through them to see if I could find her pie recipe.  I couldn’t.  I guess I just call Sarah for it every year.  Not to worry Sarah…I actually wrote it down this year.

Anyways, I must have missed a folder of recipes in the past.  Its a gem…a real gem.  For one reason, Grandma wrote a bunch of stuff down on scrap paper, which happens to be old papers my mom must have written for high school or college.  Her typing skills weren’t the greatest (you’ve come a long way mom!), so she must have scrapped them.  FYI…my mom ROCKED at reports in her day.   Second reason – it’s the mother load jackpot for pickle recipes & jell-o w/ fruit salads.

I don’t know about anyone else, but jell-o w/ fruit salads were a staple at The Hintzman’s.  Grandma ALWAYS had one out for us to eat w/ our Saturday lunch when we’d come visit.  I think its something w/ their generation…  I loved the ones w/ marshmallows…a sweet surprise when you took a bite.

I have been excited about all the jello salad recipes I found in the folder.  I’m pretty much DYING for a reason to make some.  Anyone want to come over?

At work today, they were discussing doing a pot-luck for an office Christmas party.  I, again, squealed in joy.  Not only do I LOVE pot-luck’s, but it’s a totally legitimate reason for me to make some jello w/ fruit salads…  When I told the ladies that, they only seemed half excited…

Grandma, I hope your jell-o w/ fruit salads are just as awesome as I remember them, otherwise, I’ll be the laughing stock of the office…Don’t let me down.  But seriously, who doesn’t love a little fruit in their jell-o?

Matt & I have decided to take a mini vacation to Las Vegas over Thanksgiving.  We have never gone anywhere just the two of us, its always going to visit family or for a conference.  This should be fun.  He’s been to Vegas many times, so asked me to figure out things I want to do, since I’ve only been once (for a conference, for him).

Last night I was researching shows.  I’m not much into musicals or the such, but I wanted to see what was out there.  I came across this – The Price Is Right – Vegas Style.  I basically ran frantically through the house ecstatic that we could get as close as possible to making a child hood dream of mine (and I’m pretty sure BethAnn’s) come true.  THE.PRICE.IS.RIGHT – OH.MY.LANTA.  B & I spent countless school days off watching the Price Is Right.  It’s basically the awesomest game show to ever grace this planet.  Bedroom sets, cars, cash, & the big wheel.  *squeels*.

-Our conversation last night, with mass excitement in my voice, and Matt, as usual, “just humoring me”-

C: Matt…I lied about not wanting to see a show.  I found one WE MUST GO TO, you probably aren’t excited like I am, and it sounds kind of cheesey.

M: Babes, I thought you said you didn’t want to see one

C: I lied.  I didn’t know that they had a mock Price Is Right.  You could help me almost fulfill a life long dream of being on The Price Is Right.

M: *rolls eyes* Seriously love?

C: seriously.  My favorite show ever.  Remember how I tell you I had an awesome childhood & tell you about the things that made it awesome?  Like going to Embassy Suites for “vacation” in Minneapolis near the Mall Of America with the Kleist’s?  And how excited, to this day, I am to tell you about it, because our parents made it THAT awesome?

M: Yes…

C: I have that same excitement for The Price Is Right.  It was a staple to my childhood, like Embassy Suites & Yahtzee w/Susie.  B & I religiously watched this game show everyday during summer vacation, Christmas vacation, & sick days.  It was always so funny to watch the people spin the wheel so hard they fell over.  B & I always said we’d be on the show someday.

M: I have a better idea, why don’t we go to Los Angeles & see the real show?

C: *sighs*  Because Bob Barker is no longer on the show.

M: I know, its Drew Carey.

C: Yeah…he smudged up the show.  He doesn’t have Bob’s excitement about it and when Bob hit on his beauties, it wasn’t creepy.

I’ll let you know in a few weeks if I’ve gotten as close to checking “get on the price is right w/ Bob Barker” off my lifelong to-do list.  I hope there are pictures.  I’ll probably be the only person there to be just as excited as if I were on the real show.

Our other option could be to see Viva Elvis by Cirque Du Soleil – which still might be awesome.

Before you get all up in my business about not updating, I’ve been busy.  Shocker…

Last week we spent the majority of the week in WI.  It was my bestie, Susan’s, wedding.  It was really gorgeous!  She had it in a barn…so it was a bit chilly, but a PERFECT setting for her & her now husband.  I couldn’t imagine anything different.  Now,I can’t wait to see the pictures!

Also, we had Ally’s baptism on Sunday while in WI.  She did awesome, no hysterical screaming of the kind.  She’s a baby rockstar.

I got to catch up with my niece, Abby & Gabe while home too.  Boy, do I miss a lot not being home all the time.  Abby is doing awesome in Kindergarten, and she likes it, except “its a long day” (her quote..not mine).  She’s made lots of friends.  Gabe digs pre school, although he can’t tell us what he does while there.  Must be amazing though!

This week, I spent 2 days in San Antonio for work.  I was disappointed.  I thought San Antonio would be really pretty, but it was kind of more run down – lots of great old building pictures to be had.  We did the pontoon river walk tour.  That was nice.  I told Matt that’s what I envision Venice to be like.  Only with a gondola, and a man not wearing khaki cargo shorts, a polo, & straw hat.  But kind of the same thing.  Buildings butting up tot he river & pretty scenery.   He looked at me like I was crazy.  I guess he’ll have to take me there so I can accurately compare.

We had an ultrasound this morning to see Baby Sherwin.  He/She is in there and looking’ good.  I kept my eyes open for it’s “bits” but didn’t see them.  She also turned the screen away when she took a closer look at that area.  I made her turn the screen when she was going over the lower half so I wouldn’t accidentally see the bits and ruin it for Matt (he doesn’t want to find out).  I’m a fantastic wife, I know.
