It takes great concentration to sit up…   It also is harder to sit when this love is licking your face.

COMPETITIVE

Dude…parenting is competitive.  It feels almost impossible not to get caught up in it.  I try everyday, but when you think you’re kid is awesome, it’s hard to accept when they aren’t the first to do stuff. I always told myself I would only worry if my kids were behind, but in the back of […]

Dude…parenting is competitive.  It feels almost impossible not to get caught up in it.  I try everyday, but when you think you’re kid is awesome, it’s hard to accept when they aren’t the first to do stuff.
I always told myself I would only worry if my kids were behind, but in the back of my head, I knew we’d only breed excellence, so I figured my kids would be the first at everything.  I also always told myself that I wouldn’t be that mom that was all “yeah, well, my kid was walking at 3 months!”  Thankfully I’m not that mom because, well, Link has only started to figure out how to sit up.  Although he’s getting better & stronger, he’s not fully there yet, his heavy melon often times makes him fall over, especially when he turns it quickly following his BFF (lucy dog) through the house.  Balance son…it’s all about balance.

Yesterday when I went to pick him up at daycare, the ladies were talking about how K started crawling over the  weekend.  I was shocked, she’s 4 weeks younger than Link, how could she possibly be crawling by now?   My initial reaction was competitive anger and a thought of “Link isn’t even nearly ready to crawl…what is wrong?”  and then I thought “yeah, well, K may be able to crawl, but Link can sit up my better than she can”.  And thenI thought “SNAP OUT OF IT CATIE!!  you don’t want Link to crawl, he’s a curious boy & crawling is only going to make your already busy life busier.  Plus, he has a hearty 16lbs to get up on all 4’s – she’s a tiny petite thing and only has probably 12 lbs to carry around.”

I try so hard not to compare him to other kids.  I mean, let’s be honest, when he grows hair, gets teeth (which I’m convinced he never will – he is taking after his Grandpa Leo), when he starts to crawl or walk has no real meaning to his life.  It doesn’t make him a genius or anymore athletic than the other kids..  All I know is, whenever he hits those milestones is fine, because he’ll always remain awesome (I hope).

*Link, baby boy, mama isn’t ready for you to crawl OR walk.  Stop watching the crawlers intently at school – please focus on figuring out puzzles instead.*

Matt & I were discussing the Denver County Fair on our drive to Oshkosh Thursday PM.  I really wanted to go, Matt thinks it’s probably lame.

C: Don’t you like going out & doing fun things like the fair?
M: but it’s not really a fair

C: it’s not in the traditional sense w/ rides, but it has fair food & fun things like a knitting contest, urban chicken judging, & pie eating contest

M: It seems lame

C: I know it’s not a “real” fair, but it’s the Denver County Fair, kind of a parody of a fair, since Denver County is urban, not rural.

M: It doesn’t even have rides

C: I don’t even like the rides, they make me puke

M: I like waiting in line for them & wondering if I’m going to die today.  Those rides are not safe & totally run by people who are high, drunk, & have no teeth.

C: you mean carnies?
M: yes.

Maybe we can go next year, but it might be hard to convince Matt since he won’t be able to gamble with his life.

Today is the day I’ve been looking forward to all summer.  We leave for WI to my parents lake house just for the weekend, but it will be just enough time to regroup. Oh, and hang out w/ our awesome family.
Watch out Winneconne, here I come, in my one piece swimming suit of course, because I’ve tried every stretch mark cream out there on the market, and none have magically made them disappear.  However, I’m not sure which is more frightening, my stretch marks, or my bright blue one piece that calls attention to my blindingly white legs.  Embrace it world, because I am.

I have packed Link’s swim trunks – 5 months is old enough for the slip ‘n slide, right?  Sitting up isn’t a requirement for the slip ‘n slide, so I think he’s fine.

Blame it on the dog…or the rain

If we can blame farts on the dog, we can blame hurting The Boy on the dog – right?

Lucy tried escaping to the front yard yesterday to greet another dog.  I tried running after her, while holding The Boy – The Boy is into reaching for things, he thought the bean bag boards were intriguing & as I ran power walked past them, he reached & leaned forward, and scraped his head.   I only cried a little.

After Link & I regained our composure, we took Lucy for a walk.  Mid walk it started to sprinkle, which turned into a steady rain, which turned into a downpour.  I was wearing a white tank top – I bet the old men in the neighborhood loved that.  *sighs*.  Talk about a train wreck.

*Please don’t call CPS, that is not a face of pain or discouragement, it’s a face of “hey ma! Look at my new trick! I can make motor noises with my lips…ALL.THE.TIME..isn’t it neat?”*
