I admit, I have no shame…nor should you

Most people who know me will say I have no shame.  They are probably right.  I’m that lady that struts her stuff naked in the women’s locker room.  What you see, is generally what you get.
That’s why I’m admitting this – I watched the season premiere of Jersey Shore last night.  Yes, you heard me right (and I know YOU watched it last night too, you’re just to chicken to fess up).  Horrendous TV is my guilty pleasure.  I love it.  I’m ADDICTED…i mean ADDICTED to 16 & pregnant & Teen Mom.  So, if you ever want to discuss that drama, feel free…I’ll talk to you for hours about it, with passion.

I try to save all of these horrible wonderful TV shows for night’s he’s at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), but sometimes he doesn’t go, and he’s forced to watch what I want.  Tuesday & Thursday evenings between the hours of 6:30pm-9:30pm I rule what is on the TV.

C to M: Did you know Jersey Shore is on tonight?

M: Seriously Babes?

C: Yeah..I think it starts at 8

M: Seriously (insert disgusted look).

C: Yeah..I’m watching it.

M: I hate watching this crap, these people are so dumb, its painful.  Everytime they are on, it’s like they have never set foot outside their house & have no idea about the world.

C: I know…its entertaining.

M: Really?

He reluctantly watched it, with commentary.  And his commentary is totally legit, these people are complete morons…and yet, they captivate me.

Teen Mom is a whole other Oprah.  I literally look forward to Tuesday PM when its on.  I ALWAYS DVR it, but that’s never required because I’m always home to watch it.  Most arguments in our marriage come from Tuesday nights – they usually turn out like this

*M walks in the door from BJJ*

M: Hey Babe

*C ignores*

M: Hi Lucy B!

C: SHHHH!!!

M: Can’t you pause it & say hello?

*C ignores & turns up volume*

C: Seriously, can you pet the dog quieter?  Macy & Kyle are totally breaking up right now.

*C turns up volume more*

M: Really Catie????

*C gives stink eye*

I know its really pathetic, I’m COMPLETELY aware.  But I love watching mindless trashy TV..I just do.  I can’t help myself.

Every year Altoona has a carnival – Cinder City Days.  Its a city wide thing complete with parade, doll & pet parade & softball tournament.  Its a big deal.

I have 2 distinct memories of Cinder City Days.  My first, I must have been about 7 years old.  I went with my dad & BethAnn.  After spending all of my allotted $$ on one game, I finally hit enough balloons with a dart to win a prize.  A.PRIZE.  I.WON.A.PRIZE.  Unfortunately, my excitement for an awesome prize such as an inflatable hammer or huge stuffed animal was short lived because I only had enough for a post.  A poster of Kiss, Aerosmith, or Nirvana.  I remember starring at those posters thinking all the guys on them looked incredibly scary & not something my parents would want me to have.  After a long battle in my head of “do I get a post because i actually won it” vs. “walk away”, I walked away.  I told the guy I wasn’t interested in his posters.  He tried to convince me I wanted one, but I held my ground.  I even got a pat on the back from my dad and a “i’m proud of you kid”.

My 2nd memory is a few years later.  I was probably 12 or 13.  We played in a softball tournament in the hot hot sun – ALL DAY.  Afterwards, some of the girls from my team wanted to go on some rides, and my parents obliged & let me.  We were on the tilt-o-whirl, spinning in a small circle in the midst of a bigger rotating circle.  Oh the dizziness!  I remember my dad talking to the carnie running the ride and having a bit of an argument.  After a few more turns, the carnie stopped the ride short.

Dad:  Catie – get off the ride

C: Why?

D: Because you’re green

C: No I’m not, I feel fine

D: I think you should get off.

I did what he requested, after all, I was pretty dizzy.  Not 2 seconds after I stepped outside of the metal fence, I threw up EVERYWHERE.  OOPPS.  I guess Dad & Mom know best.

I had some time this weekend to take some pictures.  Enjoy!  (FYI…I was almost wet my pants the first 5 times I rode the Zipper….it was scary).

I spent this weekend in WI visiting my family.  Where else would you find this on the kitchen counter due to its high use?

Friday I got to spent the majority of the day with Sarah, helping her prepare for B’s baby shower.  Sarah had a brilliant idea to make cake pops.  Although, cake pops, are super adorable, they are a pain to make.  After about an hour of getting a lot of broken & deformed ones, we were just praying we’d be able to make 18 “decent” ones that we could use for the party.  Thankfully, we got a few more than 18, but not by much.  There has to be an easier way!!!

Friday afternoon, I spent at B’s house helping her repaint a dresser for the nursery.  Although I don’t have pictures, I think the end product is pretty spectacular.  I hope B thinks the same!

Saturday was busy with B’s shower.  I think it was a success.  We decorated onesie’s for the baby, ate, drank punch, played some games, gabbed, & opened presents.

Saturday night I had the honor of attending my 10 year HS reunion (wha??  It’s been 10 years already?).  It was held at Hobbs in the midst of Cinder City Days & the softball tournament.  Not really classy, but definitely suitable.   To sum it up there were a lot of people who changed and a lot who stayed the same.  It must be the world’s way of achieving equilibrium. The worst part – seeing horrid pictures of myself throughout the years.  EEKS!!  What was I thinking?

It was important to me to go to a college where I wasn’t surrounded by a lot of my high school peers.  I felt that would give me the best opportunity to really grow & become the person I am today.  I would be able to define myself vs. hanging out with people who had defined me through school.  Because of that, I was terrible at keeping in touch with friends after high school,  which made it even nicer to catch up with a lot of people.  I have vowed to do a better job from here on out!

I have also decided I’m going to make a reunion T-shirt…and make millions.  It will have these lines:

Married?  Y/N

Kids? Y/N

Still live in town?  Y/N ________ (if you answer no, write in city here)

Occupation _______

That way, you don’t have to ask (OR answer) those questions over  & over again.  If you’re interested, I’ll make them with puffy paints for $15 + shipping.

Today, I golfed with my dad.  He KILLED me.  And I MUST get it together before our annual golf match this fall.  I have my work cut out for me…. Oi Vey.

This lovely beast was parked outside of the Kwik Trip.

Sorry for not posting lately – I’ve been busy.

Matt made it home safe & sound from China with a lot of amazing experiences & stories.  Lucky boy got to hold a baby lion.  Ohh…it was SO cute.  I told him he should have brought it home – it might be the only form of kitty he’s not allergic too.  Lucy would love a four-legged friend.

Matt got home Monday afternoon, and Thursday night we were both on a plane to Monterey for his sister, Randi’s, college graduation.  YAY Randi!  Congrats!!!  Now that she’s done w/ her Bachelor’s she’s on to bigger & better things – law school.  We were only in CA for a short time, but we made the best of it by getting in a lot of Williams’ family time.  Friday, Randi & her husband, Rob took us golfing at Tahama Golf Course in Carmel.  Its owned by Clint Eastwood.  The course was BEA.U.TI.FUL.  And although very hilly, it was a great time.  Not to mention we had AMAZING weather.  Afterwards, we got treated to a lovely lunch in the clubhouse.  We finished Friday off w/ dinner & dessert at Randi & Rob’s.  I joined a friendly, but competitive game of Phase 10 with Randi, April, & Aunt Charlotte.  Matt was introduced to Angry Birds on his mom’s iPad.  The man is addicted.  ADDICTED!  Saturday was more family time with Randi’s graduation in the AM, swimming at our hotel with the kids in the afternoon, & dinner in the evening.  We were fortunate enough to have Matt’s friend, Kristine travel from San Jose to meet us for dinner.  We got to meet her new baby, Seth (he’s SUPER adorable) and her boyfriend, Erich.

Sunday morning we were off early for the airport to Vegas.  Vegas was fun.  I definitely know why its nicknamed Sin City.  Although I didn’t partake in anything insane, except 30 min. of gambling, I was a glutinous fool.  The food…oh the food!  Everything I ate was spectacular.  I had 2 goals for Vegas – win big & come back not pastey white.  I accomplished 1 of the 2…I have some color.  We were in Vegas until Tuesday morning.  We really only sat by the pool, dined, had a few cocktail parties to go to (Matt was there on business for a big conference) and did some shopping.  It was pretty busy and I didn’t have much opportunity to really explore.  I’ll need to go back.  I will admit, the city is overwhelming.  As we drove the strip, I was SO attracted to all the lights, and kept thinking “oh, we need to go there..and there…and there too”.  It all looks so fun *sighs*  I think I’m the reason they have all those flashy lights, they get me.    Here is a picture of Matt & I on Sunday night before dinner, its of cell phone quality

Last night I started the process of replacing the kitchen floors.  Cassie came over around 5 to drop off the flooring, we then got to yapping.  Then around 6:30 Mary & Ryan (matt’s friends from the gym) showed up to help also!  I think they peer pressured Cassie to stay.  I’m glad, I needed the help!  We started by ripping off the old nasty vinyl fake wood trim.

Then we spackled around the removed trim.  After that, that’s about when everyone went home – it was all a project in itself.

I was up & working by 6:45am this morning.  I started with sanding the spackle & then painting far enough down around the trim so it’d be presentable! Carrie showed up around 11:00 to help me with the actual floor itself.  Here are some pictures.

Mary & Ryan showed up towards the end of Carrie & laying the floor – jut in time to cut the trim, install it, & move appliances back.

Here’s the finished product!  (I LOVE IT.  Such an improvement).

The view from the kitchen into the laundry room.

view from the dining room into the kitchen

I’m so glad its done!  It’s such an improvement from the nasty brown stuff before.  I’m so appreciative of everyone’s help!!!

Now I need to lay on the couch…

Now that Matt has left for 10 days to China (for work..not all pleasure) I’ve made myself a fairly large list of things to get done while he’s gone.  Mostly things that need to get done and a few things that I want to get done.  See – I love home improvement projects, gardening, & tending to the lawn.  Matt…not so much.  Which is fine.  I don’t ask him to help, and I’m fine doing it myself (unless I need something that is to high for me to get or to heavy to move by myself).  I went straight from dropping Matt off at the airport to Home Depot to get all of my supplies.

Here’s my list –

Touch up paint in the laundry room
Paint around the trim in the kitchen
Install new kitchen floor
Install new kitchen trim
Fix grout in bathroom
Fertilize Lawn
Kill weeds in lawn
Clean matt’s car
Fix grass around driveway
Sew baby Seth a blanket

Notice I was able to cross one thing off my list already – fertilizing.  I woke up this morning & remembered the sprinklers went off & the ground was wet, a requirement for fertilizer.  So there I was, at 6:15 AM, spreading fertilizer on my lawn.  I’m not sure if I should be proud of myself for being efficient or bothered that the only people up at 6:15am doing lawn work are old people.

I was taking Lucy on our nightly stroll – on our usual route when this little rat dog (maybe a long hair chihuahua?) came running across the street to meet us.  Keep in mind, this happens probably 50% of the time.  This ugly rat dog follows you…  I’d say 25% out of the 50% times, the owner is there to call it back.  Today, not so much.  SO…I DRAGGED Lucy back to this dog’s house, so it would follow & I could return it.  I then stood on the front stoop with a steamy pile of dog poo in a bag in one hand, trying to contain Lucy with the same hand, and rang this guy’s bell 5 times, followed by some loud knocks.  Nothing.  So I continued on our walk, and the dog didn’t follow us.  That is, until we were almost all the way down the street when it came sprinting across the street toward us, dodging MOVING vehicles.  AAHHH!!  So I called Animal Control.  Just as I finished reporting the dog & was about to have them come out & pick it up, the owner came out & called the dog.  The dog ran back to the owner, looked at him, and then darted back down & across the street ALMOST GETTING HIT.AGAIN.  I drug Lucy back to the guy’s house with small rat dog in tow.  Then this conversation happened:

Catie (in a calm voice): Just to let you know, I just got off the phone with Animal Control.  And although I canceled my complaint, next time I won’t & your dog will be picked up & brought to the pound and/or you will be cited.

Man: That wasn’t necessary

Catie: I do believe it was, your dog was not under control or leashed, which is a violation in Lakewood.

Man: Well, it still wasn’t necessary, there should be different laws for different sized dogs.  See, my dog is small & isn’t viscious, your dog is big.

Catie:  My dog is a MEDIUM sized dog, and she also isn’t vicious.  She is also sitting here at my side obeying, being a contained dog, AND a nice dog.

*insert yip at Lucy from small dog*

Man: Well ma’am, I don’t think you should have called.

Catie: I DO think I should have called.  I was looking out for your dogs safety.   Your dog followed my dog & I, and didn’t have intentions of going back to your house.  Not to mention it almost got hit by TWO cars, you witnessed one.  Did you want it to get hit by a car?  Did you want it to follow me home & be lost?

Man: Well you should have let me know.

Catie: i DID let you know, I rang your bell & knocked on your door for 5 minutes.

Man: Well I didn’t hear it.

Catie: Sorry you didn’t hear it, that isn’t my problem, nor is your dog.

He seriously mad me reconsider calling Animal Control & having them give him a citation.

Not to mention, Lucy pulled so hard on her chain trying to play with this dog, that she made herself short of breath, which caused her to lay in the grass for 5 min.  THE INSANITY.

I know in the name of this preacher, I should F-him...but I’m to0 annoyed right now.  Maybe after I have dinner.

Earlier this month I received a letter in the mail from my local Mazda dealership saying they were buying back used Mazda’s.  That gave me the idea that I’d sell them mine, and Matt & I would become a 1 car family until fall when we planned on buying a new car anyways.  I had it figured out.  Matt could get a used & inexpensive motorcycle for days I needed the car (like Wednesday night for golf league) and in the meantime, I’d do something I’ve always wanted to get into – biking.  I found a few used roadbikes on craigslist that would fit my tall 5′-1″ frame.  Unfortunately, Matt didn’t buy into my idea.  Sad.  But seriously…

*Dad, please stop reading here*

My inner hippie thinks it will be A) good exericse to ride my bike to/from work 2-3 days/week  B) would love to save on gas & C) would like to help save the environment.  But part C isn’t HUGE on my list..just something nice to do, like recycling.
*Dad, you can read again*

In the meantime, I’m going to work on getting a road bike and riding anyways.  Who knows, I may hate it?

On a totally other note –

Matt & I are going to Vegas in 3 weeks.  We’re going for a work convention Matt needs to attend.  While he’s off schmoozing, I’ll be hanging with “the wives”.  I’ve never met these woman.  I only know that they are all stay at home mom’s to real estate tycoons.

As always, I’m nervous.  Nervous they’ll judge me for being a working lady.  Nervous they won’t like me.  Nervous I’ll be the fat frumpy wife.  I do have one thing up on them…I’m WAY younger.  I know there are spa days involved (yay!) and cocktail parties.  The cocktails party is my worrisome part…I’m sure these woman are bombshells that wear size 2 and have amazing make up.

Let’s be honest, I’m a reformed hardcore tomboy, but still can’t stand to wear her hair down & have it on her neck.  My “make up pouch” consists of a M.A.C. eye shadow pallate of 4 shades, eye liner, & mascara.  Most days, I can’t be bothered to put mousse in my hair let alone apply mascara or anything else.

Thankfully, Carrie, has it together, and can give me some pointers & lessons before I go.   You can expect debutant training in my living room everyday for the next 3 weeks.

I’m also afraid they’ll be all “Yeah, my porsche roadster, the one I drive after dropping my kids off at school in my range rover, isn’t fast enough”.  And I’ll be all “yeah, I can totally relate.  My road bike max’s out at 6 mph and no one hears my bell”.

I know I have nothing to worry about.  These woman (I affectionaly call them the sorority) seem to be nice & down to earth ladies, like me.  And I rarely have a hard time making friends…  Worst case scenerio, they aren’t fun, we have nothing in common, I only have to see them occassionally & I enjoy the $.05 slots in Vegas.  Definately manageable.

I now consider myself a pro at stripping paint.  Don’t mess around with other brands, Jalisco IS.THE.BEST.

So, I’ve been spending whatever free time I’ve had the last month stripping paint.  It’s been a process.  When I started, in a few spots I ran into this stuff which I thought was rotting wood.  It worried me, but it was just in one spot, so I kept going.  Once I started doing the underside of the shelves, I ran into more of it.  Thankfully, it wasn’t rotting wood.  I don’t know exactly what the black, nasty, thick, sticky stuff was, but it was no match for Jalisco.

I was skeptical through the whole process how it would turn out, but now that its done, I’m pleased  Our spare bedroom now has a mismatched matching half bedroom set w/ the dresser I finished a few months ago.

Last weekend Matt went to Vancouver for work. He left Lucy & I behind to fend for ourselves. It was great (nothing personal Matt) to go back to being a bachelorette. Lucy & I did what we wanted to do, when we wanted to do it, and however we wanted to do it. Not to mention, I got a lot accomplished.

First, it started on Friday afternoon when Carrie & I decided we’d replace my kitchen floors. Now mom, before you get excited, it didn’t happen. There were too many obstacles. One being finding flooring at a reasonable price that I liked. I thought I had that figured out, but the place that said they were having a sale on loose-lay vinyl was, but only on REALLY UGLY loose lay vinyl. I mean, my current linoleum was probably nicer, albeit dirtier. Second, I realized I need to get rid of the wash basin in the laundry room before I put flooring down. Carrie thought we could do it ourselves, until I sent her a picture, then she realized what a beast it appears to be (mostly that nasty ugly pipe under it). *Note current flooring…trendy huh?* I don’t think David, the flooring salesmen, was so convinced Carrie & I could accomplish this task by ourself. Bless his old heart, he gave us some great pointers and even offered to let us borrow his carpet knife.
