Future Frat Boy

May 10th, 2016

We’re pretty sure Duke might be a frat boy.  Aside for his ability to chug all liquids like a champ, needing to walk around w/ a snack cup at all times – he’s convinced his daycare teachers that he’ll only nap w/o his shirt on (and walks around a portion of the day w/o it).  […]

I don’t know if you remember last year, but we never made it to get pictures with Santa.  I guess we lost track of time with an early family Christmas & then having Duke.  I felt fully motivated to take the boys Christmas Eve Day.  When we got to Bass Pro Shop, the “ticket” they gave us was for 2pm, the earliest they had.  That was 2 hours from when we got there.  Unfortunately, we didn’t wait around 2 hours.  I was beyond disappointed.

Thankfully, my sister in law is a rockstar & kept the “ticket”, in case we could use it again this year.  I was lucky & they used the same tickets they did last year this year (as I’m sure every year).  Ironically, Christmas Eve Day was the only day I had time to take them again this year.  I made sure we showed up at 1pm, you know, JUST IN CASE.  We were one of the first in line.  Awesome.  I felt a little guilty, because after talking with the lady in line behind me,  she said they sold out of tickets for the day at 10:30am (they opened at 10 am!).  I was a little nervous in line because everyone else ticket had a white sticker on it – ours did not.

Link & Duke stayed busy in line by snacking & coloring.IMG_5958

Then!  IT was time.  Santa Time!  Link, of course, loved it.  Duke, well, he got coal for Christmas.

If anyone has a Bass Pro Shop near, I highly recommend their Santa Workshop.  Lots to do!  Coloring, games, & activities.

This was our house last Wednesday (or technically Thursday) at 2:30am…

firetruck

At 1:30, our smoke alarm/carbon monoxide detectors started going off.  Matt & I went through & reset them.  Only to have them go off again.  Because they are hard wired, removing the batteries was pointless.  In the course of an hour, it kept happening.  First it would say “fire!  fire!” and then it would say something along the lines “carbon monoxide detected”.  An hour later, after continuing to silence the alarms and in between both Matt & I googling our fire/CO alarms to troubleshoot…we thought “what if it really is carbon monoxide?”.   We then decided to call the non emergency line, which instructed us to call 911.  Totally lame.  “hi…I think it’s a false alarm, but our CO detectors keep going off.  Can you send somebody to please come check it out?”.    Yeah…  We needed to evacuate the house – awesome.

Turns out, we had a faulty detector that was triggering the other detectors.  It’s in the trash can & we’ve had no drama since.  I should probably replace it :/

This is Link’s recap (it was so random, he just started spouting it off)

Daddy wake me up.  I went outside &  I were crying.  The fire trucks come & saved our house!  The fire truck not scary & the dark not scary.

Right after this, I was bringing him back upstairs to go back to bed.  Matt said “Good night buddy, I love you!”

Link turned around & with pure conviction said “dada!  Don’t wake me up again!”.
Amen brotha!

Also…sorry to our neighbors who had the fire trucks lights shining in their bedroom windows.  Have they no courtesy?

Fortunately, the Easter Bunny was set up right in front of Build-A-Bear this weekend.  I didn’t really even think about it.  However, when Link saw the Easter bunny, he was SOOO excited.  We had to go visit him.  Wouldn’t you know, I had Duke w/ us too.  PERFECT PHOTO OP.  The Easter Bunny will have to replace Santa this year.  Nevermind my child’s stained shirt.  He spilled chocolate milk all over himself about 5 min. before the birthday part.  I have extra undies & pants for him, but not a shirt (mom fail).  Lesson learned.vermind my child’s stained shirt.  He spilled chocolate milk all over himself about 5 min. before the birthday part.  I have extra undies & pants for him, but not a shirt (mom fail).  Lesson learned.

This might seriously be my favorite picture of the both of them – creepy bunny & all.

Regardless, we all still managed to enjoy Christmas.  Link loved his gifts.  Santa somehow managed to bring him exactly what he wanted – a hockey goal.  We were able to enjoy lunch at the Village Inn with Randi & Roberta between Roberta’s flight coming in & Randi’s leaving.

Since I’m having a baby in two weeks, we didn’t travel for Thanksgiving this year.

Let me start off by saying, no offense to anyone & everyone who has ever hosted us in the past, but Thanksgiving this year, just us, at our house, was the best ever.

A few of our friends were kind enough to invite us over, but I just wasn’t feeling it.  I was really looking forward to a low key day/evening.

We spent the day just hanging out, Matt, Link, Lucy & myself.  We had a lot of much needed family time.  Link was a rock star & a good listener all day.  We made a few papa murphy pizza’s for dinner.  Don’t snub your nose at us, it was so relaxed.  I also made sure to have a few staples – strawberry & pretzel salad and jellied cranberry sauce.

Although two and a half is proving to have its moments, I’m totally falling in love with Link all over again.  The kid cracks me up, even through both of our tears.

He’s been struggling with staying in his room at night after we put him down (and waking up at the butt crack of dawn, but that’s a different issue).  Wednesday PM’s is my night to call my BFF Susan.  A few weeks ago, I was on the phone w/ her when he got out of bed, so I put him back into bed and he said “mama, I need to hug your muscles”.  I thought it was odd, but he grabbed my right arm, hugged it w/ his arms & rested his head on my chest & then did the same w/ my left.  10 min. later he was out of his room again, so I brought him back to bed, covered him up & he said (CLEAR AS DAY!) “mama, I need to snuggle your nipples” and then proceeded to hug each boob.  He now can not just give me a hug, he needs to “snuggle my nipples”.  *sighs*.  I sure hope he doesn’t ask the daycare teachers this request before naptime.  :/

I know every mom says this, but I wish I kept better track of things he says & the conversations we have.  They are fabulous.  I couldn’t wait for Link to start talking & I have not been disappointed.

While drawing on his board Saturday, he turns & around & says to me: “No coloring on the floor!  My daddy ask me!”

color board

His comprehension is slowly getting there.  Because Link is 2.5, he struggles with reasoning.  We’ve been giving him good choices & bad choices, and he can pick his destiny.  It seems when he makes a bad choice, he sends himself into a never ending spiral down the drain.  Matt has instated the “thinking chair”.  I.E. he sits on the oversized chair in the living room until he “gets his mind right” (as I put it).

Last night we were facetiming Grandma, and when asked to say goodbye, Link said no.  Matt ended the call.  That set Link out of control, because he apparently DID want to say goodbye (even though when asked 3 times prior, he said no).  The kid couldn’t recover, so off to the thinking chair he went.  I think he spent 5 minutes in there raging before he was rational again.  We talked about why he was there, said our peace, hugged it out & went on our way.  5 min. later at the train table he says to me “I made bad choice & had to sit in the thinking chair until I got my mind right”.  I couldn’t help but smile.  Smile because he’s comprehending him & smile because it was so cute/funny to hear him talk about getting his mind right.

I seriously love this boy.
