Once we arrived at the Lake, it was awesome.  Link was stoked to see his Poppy (sorry Mimi).

Poppy quickly showed Link the pontoon in which Link blared the horn for what seemed like forever.  Toddlers & buttons!  It didn’t matter – it was one of the rare times I saw a smile on Link’s face that day.

Boat

Friday was a relaxed day while we waited for Sarah & B to come with the cousins.  Link LOVED hanging out w/ Gabe.  There might be a 4 year age difference between the two, but boy do they have a lot in common.  Rough housing, trains, cars, planes, & movies.   Link was in heaven.
Saturday we attended the parade – Link’s first ever.  He didn’t quite know what to make of it.  On one hand, he thought seeing the fire trucks & tractors up close was mind blowing, but hearing their loud noises was terrifying.  Link also didn’t quite get the concept of gathering candy – obviously not my child.  Thanks Poppy for helping the kid out!

We ended Saturday by roasting marshmallows & fire works.  Link showed he had some of my DNA in him & didn’t like smores, but LOVED the marshmallows.  Again, not a fan of the fireworks – “they loud mommy”.

Marshmallows

Sunday it was back to Denver we went.  It was a much better trip & Link was to full of the sillies to nap.

Funny Face

Oh!  Did I mention Allison got a bounce house for her birthday & kindly brought it with her to the lake to share with her cousins?  I’m positive we need one (and the view).

We are back to being home owners & moved in this weekend.  I didn’t realize how great it would feel to have a lot more space, but it feels awesome.  The house is absolutely perfect and the neighbors have already welcomed us.

A big shout out to my mom who came a few days early to help us pack and has been helping unpack.  We couldn’t ahve done it without her, it’s no joke.  I have been working 50-60 hours/week for the last two months trying to meet a project deadline (this AM, done…YAY!).  I guess I could have stayed up all night and then would have been able to pack, but why do that when you have a super mom?
Pictures to follow…soon.

We have been in our apartment for three weeks now & are officially settled in.   It was an easier transition than we anticipated, except for Lucy B.  She’s is quickly making it known that the city life is not for her.  She much prefers the quiet life of suburbia where she can lay in the backyard at her will.

The apartment has many plus’, like a second bathroom.  Who knew that would be such a luxury?  We also opted for the “updated” unit that includes a washer & dryer.  With the “updated” unit we have hardwood floors (fake) and granite counter tops.  The finishes are, honestly, nicer than our house.  Right outside are door is a park, which we have used every weekend so far.

I feel like Matt & I have come full circle to a point…or maybe we’re back in the middle of a figure eight (which means we might be in this place again…right?).  When we first started dating, we spent a lot of time eating take out pizza on the floor of his very bare apartment watching the summer 2008 Olympics.   Currently, we have been eating a lot of take out, at the table of our barely furnished apartment watching the winter Olympics….with a 2 year old running amok screaming “ICE HOCKEY!” and a dog pacing the apartment because she’s out of sorts.

Life is good.

Matt & I went into this knowing we’d probably only be there for the 40 min. “VIP pre-party” before Link was over it.   Link pleasantly surprised us & loved it more than we thought.  He even sat still in his chair & watched!  We only stayed for the first half, but we all had such a great time.

This is Link saying “whoa!”  They made a short bus into a monster truck & were giving people rides around the course beforehand.    This is all it took to suck Link in!

This truck was our favorite & did the best job.  He put on a great show!

First try of cotton candy.  Wasn’t a fan at first – I literally had to shove it in his mouth.  Totally not my child.  Thankfully, it didn’t take him long to realize the glory that was on his lips.

I’ll admit that on Monday, I dreaded leaving work.  I dreaded having to go home and deal w/ the fight that ensues every night when I pick Link up from daycare (he never wants to stop playing to go home).  I didn’t want to deal w/ walking Lucy.  I didn’t want to deal w/ the chaos that is making dinner.  I didn’t want to do the bed time routine.  I wanted to just go home, put my sweat pants on & eat frozen pizza.

Obviously, I didn’t have a choice.  Link happily left daycare, without a fuss.  Link & I power walked Lucy through the ‘hood, but not w/o Link crying most of the time.  I gave him my phone to play with, out of desperation.  However, that just made him more mad because he couldn’t hold it or operate it because he INSISTED on taking a golf ball & wiffle ball bat along on our walk & wouldn’t let me hold onto them while he played w/ the phone.  No reasoning w/ that child.  I made “brinner”, but only with Link attached to my hip or clinging to my leg screaming “up up” because I had to set him down & use two hands for a few seconds.  After dinner, he happily did some coloring and then we played cars.  I would be lying if I said I let him stay up late because we were having so much fun – I had him in bed by 6:55pm.

Thankfully, I woke up Tuesday w/ a better attitude….

Evenings are a struggle at our house.  When I pick Link up, he’s usually glad to see me, however, he is NOT glad that I take him home.  It’s usually a struggle to round him up and then he kicks & screams his entire way to the car.  Since the day he was born, he’s been tired and grumpy past 4pm – it hasn’t changed at 16 months, he’s still tired & grumpy (I don’t blame the kid).  If Lucy looks at him wrong or he falls over, the whining & crying becomes full force.  Don’t even get me started on dinner.  The boy doesn’t eat anything unless it’s fruit or the occasional pea, colby jack cheese, mac & cheese, or the rare chicken nugget – forget any other veggie, meat, OR food for that matter.  So yeah, to say the least, the 1-1.5 hours we have together every night after work aren’t always the most enjoyable, but we do our best.
When I arrived at daycare last night, Link not only was glad to see me, but he gave me a hug & then said “up”.  On our way to the car, there was no kicking & no screaming, but only babbles & giggles.  When we got home, he only got minorly frustrated with Lucy & her inability to control her liquor licker.  I was entirely pleased.   At that point, I figured regardless of how dinner goes, I’ll chalk that night up as a win.  Happy Evening: 3 – Grump-a-saurus:559

I put some tacos on Link’s plate w/ some mixed veggies along with a spoon.  While he was eating, I busied emptying the dishwasher (was waiting for Matt to get home so we could eat together, Link informed me his tummy couldn’t hold out another minute).  After a few minutes, I looked up & saw Link happily enjoying his taco/refried bean combo.  In fact, he enjoyed the small portion I gave him (no sense in wasting what he most likely won’t eat), I gave him more & he ate most of that also, all without a fuss.  I’m pretty sure he thought I was a lunatic as I constantly praised him & then made a big deal about him getting a “sweet treat” (i.e. strawberries) because he did so good eating his meat & veggies.

The remainder of the evening went awesome.  He was so happy & had so much energy.  It was a total relief  & breath of fresh air.  Maybe not ALL nights will be a battle.

After a day in Seattle, we took a road trip to Vancouver.  It really was only a 2.5 hour drive, but probably the longest Link has been in the car.  He did awesome, with a minor exception.

Matt won dad of the year several times on our road trip.  First was when he told me we were 30 miles from Bellingham, WA & we’d stop at the mall.  Being it 9:00am, i was all “uhh…ok?” & thinking “the mall is really random place to want to stop to stretch our legs, what’s wrong w/ the 7-11?”.  Then, it hit me when we pulled up to the mall at 9:30am & the parking lot was empty.  The mall is open, but the stores aren’t, therefore, Stinky Linky can run amuck through the mall to stretch his legs & the only people who care are gams & gramps getting coffee w/ their besties.  BRILLIANT MATTHEW!

About a half hour later, we were back in the car, only to stop for gas.  While Matt was filling up, Link was getting crabby.  I figured I’d just give him an apple sauce pouch.  As I’m putting his bib on him (the kid can’t be trusted!), I thought “hmm…this could be a disaster” & then I thought “what other options do I have?  Plus, he’s pretty good w/ the pouch”.  10 seconds later, I hear pure madness in the backseat.  I go back & check on him and Link has berry applesauce EVERY.WHERE.  Ugh.  Unfortunately, mostly on places not covered by his bib, like the car seat latch, car seat, clothes, etc.  I sighed not quite knowing what do do with The Great Thinker said “I saw some snacks for his snack cup inside”.  Dad saves the day again.  Boom!!

While inside, I saw these & I couldn’t resist to feed my addiction (yes, it’s an addiction…it’s terrible).

IMG_1606

There, now I’ve admitted it to my husband & the internet….What’s next?

With no problems at the border, we arrived in Ft. Langley where we stayed with some of Matt’s friends.  We arrived Tuesday around lunch time & just relaxed the rest of the day.  Wednesday, Dwayne took us around Ft. Langley to show us the sights – apparently they shoot some movies & TV shows there.  They were shooting something & I did see inside of a trailer, but didn’t see anyone I recognized.  To think, they are living amongst the stars!  Thursday was supposed to be nice, so we planned that day to head into Vancouver.

Turns out, the weather wasn’t all that nice on Thursday, but we made the best of it.  We walked a bit through downtown Vancouver & drove through Stanley Park.  Because we have such amazing timing, we got to Vancouver just as nap time was creeping up.  We talking Link into rallying & brought him the aquarium.  Both Matt & I were a bit skeptical of how he’d like it, if at all, but what else are you to do in the rain?  Turns out…he LOVED it.  Like, tantrums when we had to leave loved it.

First went to see the white sided dolphins.  He was mesmerized  The aquarium wasn’t very busy, so he got his own little area to watch!

CIMG1406

Link, however, did NOT like being dressed up like a dolphin.

CIMG1408

…Or driving a boat.

CIMG1407

Next up were the beluga whales, apparently Vancouver is one of the few places that has them in captivity.  They were pretty spectacular.   We watched a little show they put on with the trainers & Link got a kick out of it (matt too!).

IMG_1591

As much as Link loved the whales & dolphins, he was OBSESSED with the giant tank that held sea turtles, fish, & sharks.  He stood there mesmerized & pointing “see” & “what’s this” for over 30 min.  He screamed bloody murder when we took him away to other kids could get their faces on the glass.  I didn’t get a good picture of him there, but I got some of the tank.  The sea turtle was both of our fav’s.

IMG_1595

The Vancouver Aquarium also had a sea lion.   I fell in love with him when he let out a groan that sounded like a giant fart.

After the aquarium, we found lunch, at a Red Robin of all places (the lady at a store recommended it, little did she know it originated in Denver).  Here is Link with a classic lemon face.  The kid couldn’t get enough!

IMG_1602

Finally, Friday was our day to go home.  We drove another 2.5 hours back to Seattle.  Matt drove like crazy man trying to waste the gas we put into the car because we prepaid the car rental place a full tank.  I wanted to puke!

Vancouver, we will be back!  Thanks for showing us a great time.

Here is a recap on Seattle.  I think it was my favorite part of the trip.  We arrived right around lunch time & headed straight for The Public Market to see if we could see them throw fish.  This place is super interesting, but super busy & totally not stroller friendly.  We only ran over about 20 people, no biggie.IMG_1578

We ate lunch at a place in the Public Market with a great view of the water.  Link enjoyed pointing out boats, birds, boats, & more boats.

CIMG1391

After lunch, we took a walk past the “gum wall”.  I nearly almost tossed the delicious cookie I just ate.  BARF.  I thought it would be a good idea to take a picture of Link next to it, but Matt was brilliant & decided we should leave him in the stroller, otherwise he might try to eat some of it.  *gag*

Next up was something I had never done before – the ferris wheel!  It was totally awesome & a great way to see the city.  It was also extremely nerve racking because Link liked to get right up to our “pods” door & pound on it…IT’S A LONG WAYS DOWN!!

IMG_1568

IMG_1566

We ended our day in Seattle with dinner at Salty’s.  It had a awesome view of Seattle & the food was amazing.  I tried out the “panoramic” feature on my phone to show the view we had!

We never made it to the Space Needle, but I’d love to go back, so be prepared Space Needle!!

Mom graciously came last week to watch Link during the week while Daycare was on vacation.

As per usual, mom can’t come w/o me having a bazillion things for us to work on.  I had a list – organize Link’s clothes, toys he’s outgrown, paint the bathroom, teach me to sew something awesome & more than just a blanket, & learn the art of cable stitch knitting.  We only got to the bathroom & cable knitting.

The bathroom ended up being more of an undertaking than we thought.  We have an old house with no exhaust fan and 2 residents that like to take steamy hot showers, which lead to paint peeling.  The plan was to scrape the peeled paint off, patch,  prime, & put a latex/epoxy paint on – ta-da done!  Unfortunately, paint scraping became more than just a few spots – i.e. most of the ceiling, so we had to scrape the whole ceiling off, which took forever.  Not to mention, we both probably have lead poisoning from the existing 1954 paint.

It was a 3-day undertaking & the bathroom now looks amazing (mostly just “cleaned” up).  But now, when the door is closed for several hours at a time to keep Link out of the toilet, it smells like an old smoker’s house.  Huh.

L OUTISIDE 1

There is a new rule for outdoor play – no balls, otherwise this happens.  I guess you can’t expect anything less when you invade her space…Lucy is still queen of the backyard.
