Clean Freak…

So, I have my quirks. I’ll be the first to admit it. One of them is I like to run a clean ship. Some might call me crazy, but cleaning to me is therapeutic. I think its part of my upbringing. Between Mom leaving us weekend chores, Barb leaving Susie & I daily chores (probably to keep us out of trouble), and the dish rag instantly gravitating to Giselle’s hand the second she came home. Its been engrained. I can’t fight it.

I honestly had a real mental debate last night. Should I update our blog & make it nice & fancy, or should I do another one of my passions? Vacuuming. OH.MY.GOSH. For all of you hardwood floor owners out there, the electrolux green machine is AMAZING. I mean..AMAZING. I can’t describe it. It makes vacuuming hardwood floors fun. Not to mention it makes dog hair disappear.

Let’s not forget about pre-marriage counselling. We had to do an argument solving exercise as homework. We needed to apply this “problem solving” procedure to our biggest argument. Biggest Argument? Dirty dishes in the kitchen sink & toothpaste residue in the bathroom sink. I don’t know what it is, but when I see dirty dishes in the sink, it makes me a bit anxious, which causes me to be super annoyed & “snarky”, which causes conflict in our marriage. All over a silly dish in the sink. Neurotic? Probably. And I don’t know why I LOVE the look of a shiny silver drain in the bathroom sink, just do. Thankfully, Matt & I have been able to meet in the middle. Dishes can be left in the sink under these two cicumstances A) you’re in a REALLY.BIG.RUSH and don’t have time to rinse & find room in our fancy 1970’s Kitchen Aid dishwasher (only appliance I haven’t replaced yet)…BUT, they must be sitting in the sink “soaking” so food doesn’t get crusted on. Or B) the clean dishwasher hasn’t been emptied. Note “BUT” above – must apply here.

My guilty pleasure is to walk up & down the cleaning aisles at Target & the grocery store. So many awesome products out there, well, what they claim to be “awesome”. I once helped a lady figure out what cleaning agent she needed to get grape juice out of her carpet at Target. She had, what is in my mind, an inadequate cleaning product in her hand. She was VERY thankful for my input. Saving the world…one cleaning agent at a time…world peace, here I come.

With all that said, I’m the first to leave dirty clothes on the bedroom floor & the last to put clean clothes away (we frequently live out of a laundry basket for a week). I also find it IMPOSSIBLE to keep our dining room table cleared off & the hutch free from mail. What can I say? I’m not perfect, but my wood floors are clean!

February Cleaning

Today Matt & I spent the afternoon taking stuff out of the old crowded/unorganized shed

& moving it into the new shed…which has SO much more room. Then we took the bike out of the office along with a bunch of stuff (hockey equipment, sticks, luggage, fans, golf stuff etc) out of the spare bedroom & into the new shed.  I am very pleased with the outcome.  The spare bedroom now looks like a spare bedroom, not a “storage room” and you can easily access everything in both sheds.  YAY.

Honey Do…

Now that I have a lot of extra free time, Matt & I have compiled a “honey do” list.  I’m doing AWESOME on it.  One of the items was to paint the window sill in the tub, it never got re painted after we re did the bathroom A YEAR AND A HALF AGO.  Geesh.  So then I got to thinking…we never painted behind the washing machine & water heater when I moved in.  We always said we’d do it when we got a new washer.  We got a new washer a little under TWO YEARS AGO.  Geesh…again.  I told Matt at 2:00 yesterday afternoon that since I have the paint out & the supplies out, I might as well just do it.  And he said “relax, we can always do it later”.  Relax…does he know who he married?  Not to mention, I did so much relaxing in the couch last night between 6-9:30, I almost went postal due to boredom.  Anyways…

Lets be honest…90% of the laundry room is painted a nice clean off white, and then the smaller area behind the washer & water heater are this ugly orange (I forgot to take before pictures…and I know I have some someplace, but the wash basin is the same color the orange wall was…so you get the point).

Anyways, he decided to just let me do my thing & moved the washer.  And although, I admit, it looks a lot nicer, more uniform, and CLEANER (the uncleanliness of the walls in this house before paint is a whole ‘nother post), I miss the orange.  the orange added pizzazz & as mom pointed out, it was unexpected.

**NOTE: Disregard the old nasty electrical outlet.  That will be changed into a nice new clean/fresh white one once I’m done with the post.  I just have to go out back in the cold & snow to shut off the electricity to the house.  Oh…how Matt loves having a capable woman in this house 🙂

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to paint behind the water heater.  That just seemed to complicated, and who wants to take a water heater out?   So its still orange behind it.  I’ll just consider that my little extra flair in the laundry room.  A little hidden surprise and reminder of how far this house come.

**NOTE:  Disregard the dog biscuits….they don’t usually find their way on top of the laundry room, but today they did 🙂  Also, I apologize for the poor quality of the pictures, but seriously, my laundry room has THE WORST lighting EVER.

Next on the Honey Do list is to go through the filing cabinet.  WOOHOO!!

And now…for a totally different Oprah:
I’m fed up with the hippie movement.  Matt & I were in the grocery store parking lot Tuesday afternoon when we walked past this hippie looking woman getting into her HUGE SUV with a bike attached to the back.  The bike had a basket on the front decorated in fake flowers (I kind of dug it).  The part that killed me, is there was a huge sticker on her hippie bike that said “on less car”.  Seriously…if you’re not hippie enough to ride your bike in the cold, rain, & snow, then don’t put that sticker on your bike.  You’re either all in, or not in at all.  Or, AT LEAST, don’t drive a huge SUV, drive something a little more environmentally friendly, like a metro.  Save the huge SUV for non environmentalist like me.  Just sayin’……

A new chapter

As few of you know,  I lost my job this week.  It was hard…I related it to breaking up with a guy after a 5 year relationship.  Even though it had recently gotten boring, it was still hard to say goodbye.  Fortunately, there are great things on the horizon.  This was something Matt & I had been discussing, but I wasn’t ready to leave my company.  Although, management was not what I wanted it to be, I loved my boss, I loved my work, & I loved the people I worked with.  However, I can find those love’s again…I’m sure.  I’m convinced this was God’s plan.  It was his little push for me to move on, because we all know, it was probably time for me to move on, I just couldn’t do it myself.  God also had great timing on this as Matt’s business is becoming successful (yay!).

I’m hoping I don’t die from boredom between sending out resumes.  I only have 3 “to-do’s”.  Fix bathtub drain (hello Plumber Catie), paint window around tub, & organize/clean out the file cabinet.  I’m hoping to get quite a bit of sewing done too.  I was just wondering when I’d finish the blanket I’m making for my cousin’s little girl.  Now I know when 🙂

In the mean time, I’m staying positive, because there are jobs out there, thankfully.  If not, you’ll find me working at The Gap…

Today is the day they FINALLY paved the front of our house.  We’ve been living with grated black top for about 6 weeks…Lucy & I hate it.  I hate driving on it and Lucy hates walking on it (which makes me annoyed walking her).

Lucy is thrilled they paved it…can’t you tell?

Our walk went much smoother tonight, even though it was dark by 7:15 when we left.  ISH!  Now only 5% of our walk is grated, hopefully they can finish that up tomorrow.

I was losing hope they’d have it done by the end of the week, but sure enough, at 6:45am this morning, all the big loud trucks pulled up & parked in front of the house.  Lucy watched the workers diligently…all day.

one last picture of Lucy enjoying the black top…
