Some people & their dogs

I was taking Lucy on our nightly stroll – on our usual route when this little rat dog (maybe a long hair chihuahua?) came running across the street to meet us.  Keep in mind, this happens probably 50% of the time.  This ugly rat dog follows you…  I’d say 25% out of the 50% times, the owner is there to call it back.  Today, not so much.  SO…I DRAGGED Lucy back to this dog’s house, so it would follow & I could return it.  I then stood on the front stoop with a steamy pile of dog poo in a bag in one hand, trying to contain Lucy with the same hand, and rang this guy’s bell 5 times, followed by some loud knocks.  Nothing.  So I continued on our walk, and the dog didn’t follow us.  That is, until we were almost all the way down the street when it came sprinting across the street toward us, dodging MOVING vehicles.  AAHHH!!  So I called Animal Control.  Just as I finished reporting the dog & was about to have them come out & pick it up, the owner came out & called the dog.  The dog ran back to the owner, looked at him, and then darted back down & across the street ALMOST GETTING HIT.AGAIN.  I drug Lucy back to the guy’s house with small rat dog in tow.  Then this conversation happened:

Catie (in a calm voice): Just to let you know, I just got off the phone with Animal Control.  And although I canceled my complaint, next time I won’t & your dog will be picked up & brought to the pound and/or you will be cited.

Man: That wasn’t necessary

Catie: I do believe it was, your dog was not under control or leashed, which is a violation in Lakewood.

Man: Well, it still wasn’t necessary, there should be different laws for different sized dogs.  See, my dog is small & isn’t viscious, your dog is big.

Catie:  My dog is a MEDIUM sized dog, and she also isn’t vicious.  She is also sitting here at my side obeying, being a contained dog, AND a nice dog.

*insert yip at Lucy from small dog*

Man: Well ma’am, I don’t think you should have called.

Catie: I DO think I should have called.  I was looking out for your dogs safety.   Your dog followed my dog & I, and didn’t have intentions of going back to your house.  Not to mention it almost got hit by TWO cars, you witnessed one.  Did you want it to get hit by a car?  Did you want it to follow me home & be lost?

Man: Well you should have let me know.

Catie: i DID let you know, I rang your bell & knocked on your door for 5 minutes.

Man: Well I didn’t hear it.

Catie: Sorry you didn’t hear it, that isn’t my problem, nor is your dog.

He seriously mad me reconsider calling Animal Control & having them give him a citation.

Not to mention, Lucy pulled so hard on her chain trying to play with this dog, that she made herself short of breath, which caused her to lay in the grass for 5 min.  THE INSANITY.

I know in the name of this preacher, I should F-him...but I’m to0 annoyed right now.  Maybe after I have dinner.

Not a good running partner

April 4th, 2011

Last summer, Lucy was the best running partner ever.  She could rock 6 miles in 70/low 80 degree weather.  Keep in mind, she’d be tapped out by the end, AND, we’d have to stop for her to lay in the shade a few times (her scrunched up dog nose causes her to overheat easily), but […]

Last summer, Lucy was the best running partner ever.  She could rock 6 miles in 70/low 80 degree weather.  Keep in mind, she’d be tapped out by the end, AND, we’d have to stop for her to lay in the shade a few times (her scrunched up dog nose causes her to overheat easily), but she still was a great companion.  Now, I realize that after not running all winter, I can’t expect her to run all 6 miles again, right away.  But we’ve started off small, with our short 2.65 mile run to/from & around our local park.  The first few times this spring she made it, although was pretty slow at the end.  Last time, we had to walk for part of it.  Today, this happened:

She just tired out on me.  I sent matt that picture and said “we’ll be longer than usual”.

It was a hotter day than what we’ve been used to this spring (but only 60), so I just figured it was her usual “i’m over heated, let me lay in this cool grass for a bit” mentality.  So I did, and she got back up, but wouldn’t let me run.  She insisted on walking…and by walking, I mean at a snails pace.  I compared it to walking with a baby who just learned to walk – slow.  I’m not joking.   After about 10 min. of this shenanigans & a quick weather change (one minute it was a nice warm breeze, the next it was cloudy with a super chilly breeze), I called Matt to come pick us up.  I kid you not, Lucy recognized his car about a block away, and THEN wanted to run to his car, but she couldn’t get in & home fast enough to lay down.  She’s been lazy the remainder of the day.

Maybe she’s more out of shape than I thought she was!  I feel a dog “get back into shape” training regimen is about to start.  Someone needs to shed a few winter pounds. I won’t say who, but she’s pictured in the above.

Good News & Drama Dog

December 14th, 2010

I got a job…yay!  As of Jan. 4, 2011, I will no longer be “unemployed” and back to a working woman.  As much as I love staying home, I also miss working, so this will be good.  It’s with a company called M.E. Group (not to be confused with M-E Engineers where I worked before).  […]

I got a job…yay!  As of Jan. 4, 2011, I will no longer be “unemployed” and back to a working woman.  As much as I love staying home, I also miss working, so this will be good.  It’s with a company called M.E. Group (not to be confused with M-E Engineers where I worked before).  Its downtown too, so a SUPER easy commute for me.

Now onto Lucy.  I just came home for a few min. to eat lunch before going back to cookie frosting.  I let Lucy outside to play, and then I went to check on her….and this is how I found her.

UGH.  Its so hard being Lucy Brazzale Williams.  Running around in the backyard with a ball in her mouth (notice the tennis ball by her tush), laying in the sun.

I should have known, she loves sun bathing.   She usually has a “spot”, notice the dirt area w/ no grass.  Its so much her spot, grass no longer grows there. Apparently it was “to shady” today.

Lucy & I would like to inform all of our Family & Friends back home that it is another lovely, sunny, & warm day here in Denver.

We had a busy weekend, but not a terribly exciting one.  Friday, I took my PE Exam.  Its done…that’s all I can say.  Now I just need to wait 6 weeks to see if I passed or failed.

We did not participate in Halloween this year.  I thought for SURE we’d get egged or TP’d.  Thankfully we didn’t!  We had a few parties to go to and I had a hockey game later in the evening so I we weren’t around to hand out candy (boo!).  That’s also the reason I didn’t get Lucy an ADORABLE Halloween Costume.  I used to mock the people who dressed up their dogs, but then I dressed Lucy up as a lion last year.  I’m happily a crazy dog owner.  Don’t judge.

Seriously, does it get any cuter?  And it made Matt, my Mom, & I laugh.  How can you go wrong with that?  Next year folks…next year.
Super funny story.  Saturday, Matt & I were grocery shopping.  We were in the cheese area of the dairy section.  I was on one end getting shredded cheese & Matt was on the other getting ricotta.  As I walked back to the cart, this African American woman behind Matt says to me:
“is that your hunka-hunka burning love?”

And I said “why yes it is”

and she said “mmm-hmmm…i could tell” with a big grin.

It made me giggle he got hit on at the grocery store.  At least I think that was a compliment.  She said it kind of silly & with a smile.

Nederland

Yesterday, Matt, Lucy & I took a short road trip (3 hour round trip) to Nederland.  Nederland is about 20 miles West of Boulder and at about 8500 FT above sea level.  So not really high and not really far, but far enough for a perfect day trip & a beautiful drive.  We were able to see the “colors” along with some amazing scenery.  Its interesting we drive the mountains to look at the colors when in reality, you see more color change in town becuase people have real trees, not just evergreen’s.  But the contrast in colors is amazing.

Here are some of the sights on our way there.

The town of Nederland is really cute.  Tiny, but cute.  There are a lot of small antique & gem shops, along with touristy things.

And finally, Matt pointed out one of my favorite things to take pictures of…run down abandoned buildings.  Nederland had a gem.

Today is the day they FINALLY paved the front of our house.  We’ve been living with grated black top for about 6 weeks…Lucy & I hate it.  I hate driving on it and Lucy hates walking on it (which makes me annoyed walking her).

Lucy is thrilled they paved it…can’t you tell?

Our walk went much smoother tonight, even though it was dark by 7:15 when we left.  ISH!  Now only 5% of our walk is grated, hopefully they can finish that up tomorrow.

I was losing hope they’d have it done by the end of the week, but sure enough, at 6:45am this morning, all the big loud trucks pulled up & parked in front of the house.  Lucy watched the workers diligently…all day.

one last picture of Lucy enjoying the black top…
