I thought I was going to miss all his baby curls, and I kind of do, however he’s so handsome, I don’t care.

Matt said it was a horrific experience and he tipped the lady very well for her patience & skill (because it apparently wasn’t easy).  He said “she didn’t do a terrible job considering”…I packed lots of suckers for him, they usually keep him calm and allow us to do thing like, trim his nails.  Apparently the cape was an adult size and covered up his hands, which he couldn’t get out, so he panicked & never recovered.  They opted to cut his hair without the cape and got hair all over (including his sucker).  Glad I missed it 🙂

Link INSISTED on giving Matt his present a day early since he was going to Jiu Jitsu w/ Matt.  I mean, the boy was right, he NEEDED to wear his gi to BJJ w/ his dad.  There is no arguing with a 3 month old – when their right, their right!

Some day’s, I can’t keep up with Matthew’s never stopping giant brain & deep thinking.

This morning, we were discussing how I’m feeling the pressure at work because I have several projects that are all due a week before or ON my due date.  I mentioned if I knew exactly when it was coming, it’d be easier.  Then I’d know whether I have to have everything done a few weeks early, or if I’ll be working past my due date & I won’t need to rush through everything.  You know, logistics.  Then he says this…

M: have you ever heard of Schrodinger’s cat?

C: a what?

M:  it is a thought experiment

M:  which says if you place a cat in a bunker with gun powder (the real theory uses something else, but he chose gun powder) that has a 50% chance of exploding (killing the cat) that cat is either dead or alive and the act of us looking causes it to be either dead or alive

C:  uhh….
babes
i don’t get it
i get the part about it being dead or alive due to the gun powderi don’t get us looking at it
can you please draw it out
i’m better that way

M: i will call you, it has to do with the baby

C: are we blowing up the baby?

Matt calls me…

M: It has to do with quantum physics.

C: I barely passed physics 201- ions in space are complicated

M: *chuckles* See, the gun powder has a 50% chance of exploding & killing the cat.

C: that part makes total sense, I just don’t understand about how A) us looking at it has anything to do with it blowing up and B) how this has to do with our baby

M: Well, unless you look at it, you don’t know if the cat is dead or alive.  Just like the baby, its a theory.  We don’t know if it’s a boy or girl until we look at it.

C: Oh…I see where you’re going with this. I just didn’t know we were doing critical thinking.

M: I just thought you would want to know what the baby is

C: I do.  But now I know it’s currently a theory, or a cat…in a box…depending on how you look at it.

M: Same difference.

This clears everything up for me.  instead of driving myself crazy the next 8 weeks about whether its a boy or girl – I’ll know what it is – a theory that it is both a boy and a girl.  A theory that won’t be proved wrong until mid March when we can look at it…or I break down & ask the Dr. first.

I also take this away from it – Matt MIGHT be watching too much Big Bang Theory w/ all this talk about quantum physics.

I’m sure glad I have him in my life to stimulate my brain cells.

Mom:

Matthew would like to know what you use to wash your towels.  He grilled me on it yesterday because “you’re mom’s towels smell so good…why don’t ours?”.  Wife Fail!!!  I think its because you use liquid fabric softener and we don’t.  But it could be the love you wash them with too.  I’m not 100% sure.

Love you!

Matt came home from Jiu Jitsu on Wednesday night with a swollen & bruised pinky finger.  He doesn’t know exactly how he did it, other than he was doing his thing, and then everyone heard a SNAP and then his finger hurt real bad.

After much deliberation, we decided yesterday to go to urgent care & get an x-ray.  Thanks BethAnn for your professional advice.  Turns out, it is, indeed broken.  He has a “spiral fracture” on the bone between the knuckle that meets the hand & the 1st knuckle on your finger.  Fortunately he only has to wear a splint for 3-4 weeks & it should heal just fine.  Unfortunately, he can’t Jiu Jitsu for 3 weeks.  Total bummer.

Shopping with Mr. Fancy Pants

In case none of you have noticed, but my husband is fancy.   He uses a dry cleaner…ON.A.REGULAR.BASIS.  That in itself, my friends, is fancy.  I mean, I don’t own anything that requires the dry cleaners (actually…I have 1 shirt that is border line).  Sometimes, when he’s about to drop his clothes off for their regular cleaning, he’ll say “babes…do you have anything that needs to go to the dry cleaners?” and mostly I say no.  I can’t be a total non-fancy-pants, so sometimes, I’m all “oh yeah…can you bring that one off white tank top/blouse?” and he’s all “babes…you haven’t worn it since last time” and I’m all “uh…it needs to be cleaned”.  He’s right….but I need to keep face.  Seriously.  It’s hard keeping up with Mr. Fancy Pants & his regular dry cleaning schedule.  I’m SO glad he didn’t ask me if I used a dry cleaner on our first date (or ever…for that matter), we might have never had a second date.  Dodged that bullet.

Even though Matt is fancy, he’s hard to shop with.  Mostly because he has a hard time spending any money on himself.  Needless to say, when he says “Babes…can we go buy some clothes” I’m like a dog who’s owner said “lets go for a walk Fido”.  I’m on his heels & giddy.  Last night was one of those nights.  Never mind I’m pregnant & exhausted – WE’RE GOING TO THE MALL!!!  I raced home & scarfed down a Lean Cusine (we are also fancy diners) and off to the mall we went.
First stop, Banana Republic Outlet.  We hit the jackpot with 1 pair of pants, 1 pair of jeans, & 1 pair of shorts (his favorite pair of shorts sprouted about 6 holes this weekend…what can I say?  He must be to sexy for his shorts….RIP fancy patchwork shorts).

My husband also has a fancy job.  He’s frequently going to fine dining establishments with super fancy people for “drinks” which turns into dinner too.  He needs to dress the part.  And in order to dress the part for his dinner tonight, we needed to find him some nicer khakis and potentially a sport coat/blazer.

Next stop Brooks Brother’s.  Here enlies the problem…most dress stores just have one fit.  Well, that’s most stores in general.  Mr. Fancy Pants needs a “relaxed” fit.  See, from all of his years on the hockey circuit, he obtained a “plump” but firm bum & super thick & muscular quads.  Skinny jeans will NEVER be part of his wardrobe or True Religion – both things built for the weak w/o man muscles.  Poor fella.  After trying on a few pairs of khakis & going up a few sizes, in order to fit his bum & legs in, we found a few pairs…albeit he’ll need a belt to avoid the gaping waste, but whatever, its impossible to find any that even remotely work.

*sighs*  Here comes the part thats even harder than pants.  His shoulders…EXTRA-WIDE.   I feel for the man.  Its super hard to find awesome & trendy shirts for him…nothing fits his shoulders.  And with that said, he’s forced into old man stuff.  He tried on a sport coat that was all trendy & sexy AND a XXL.  I was SO excited.  But of course, he couldn’t move his arms & it was skin tight on his biceps.  I was totally disappointed.  The lady sales lady then pointed us to the “old man” section, as I like to call it.  Where there were these all grown up professional, I’m 85 & still in “the business” sport coats.  UGH.  Seriously, they had these navy blue blazers w/ gold buttons – they looked liked something a sailor would wear.  Matt said “those are so east coast”.

Seriously…this was awful, and he’s fancier than this.

We did find a pretty plain black one, which would have worked.  But Matt wasn’t sure.  So he gave the lady (keep in mind…she’s like 90 & super slow) his khakis & sport coat to put on “hold” & we’ll be back.  So we power walked to the other end of the mall to SAKS, but had no luck.  So we power walked to the other end of the mall to Neiman Marcus, again, no luck.  On our way back to Brooks Brothers I said

“so…do you NEED the sport coat for tomorrow, or can we wait until we find something you really love”

*insert mumble* “I don’t NEED it for tomorrow”.

Well ok then…  Now we’re back to brooks brothers, and there is hesitation about the black blazer because you can’t wear it with the navy blue khakis AND the khaki khaki’s, we’re going to get it.   I found a pair of “taupe” (as they called it) khaki pants, but Matt thought they  looked more green & I thought they looked more gray.  The store had them paired w/ a navy blue blazer.   When I held them up to something black, it looked like they went together, but Matt wasn’t so sure, but as I’ve mentioned before, I’m not fancy, I can barely match my own clothes, let alone compile something for my husband to look presentable in  Thankfully, other workers were at Brooks Brothers at this time to help us decide if these “taupe” colored pants were more green or gray & regardless, do they go w/ the black blazer?  They all agreed that the “taupe” pants would look good w/ the black blazer.

Awesome.  I’m tired, and we’re set.  We have a blazer and TWO pairs of Khakis.   Now the 90 year old lady is checking us out, she rings up the blazer, and then WHAM!  Matt’s brain light bulb went on…And he says:

“I’m really sorry to do this to you again, but do you mind holding these 3 things again?”

I give him a strange look & we walk out of the store

M: I think you’re right, if I don’t love it, we shouldn’t get it.

C: Ok…that’s fine, but what about the pants?  You need pants…you can’t NOT wear pants tomorrow.  I mean, I know its not the most important meeting ever, but you need pants.

M: I know…but I just put an outfit together in my head from my closet.

C: *sighs*  Ok….can we go home now?

M: I owe you a dairy queen…

Sorry for not posting lately – I’ve been busy.

Matt made it home safe & sound from China with a lot of amazing experiences & stories.  Lucky boy got to hold a baby lion.  Ohh…it was SO cute.  I told him he should have brought it home – it might be the only form of kitty he’s not allergic too.  Lucy would love a four-legged friend.

Matt got home Monday afternoon, and Thursday night we were both on a plane to Monterey for his sister, Randi’s, college graduation.  YAY Randi!  Congrats!!!  Now that she’s done w/ her Bachelor’s she’s on to bigger & better things – law school.  We were only in CA for a short time, but we made the best of it by getting in a lot of Williams’ family time.  Friday, Randi & her husband, Rob took us golfing at Tahama Golf Course in Carmel.  Its owned by Clint Eastwood.  The course was BEA.U.TI.FUL.  And although very hilly, it was a great time.  Not to mention we had AMAZING weather.  Afterwards, we got treated to a lovely lunch in the clubhouse.  We finished Friday off w/ dinner & dessert at Randi & Rob’s.  I joined a friendly, but competitive game of Phase 10 with Randi, April, & Aunt Charlotte.  Matt was introduced to Angry Birds on his mom’s iPad.  The man is addicted.  ADDICTED!  Saturday was more family time with Randi’s graduation in the AM, swimming at our hotel with the kids in the afternoon, & dinner in the evening.  We were fortunate enough to have Matt’s friend, Kristine travel from San Jose to meet us for dinner.  We got to meet her new baby, Seth (he’s SUPER adorable) and her boyfriend, Erich.

Sunday morning we were off early for the airport to Vegas.  Vegas was fun.  I definitely know why its nicknamed Sin City.  Although I didn’t partake in anything insane, except 30 min. of gambling, I was a glutinous fool.  The food…oh the food!  Everything I ate was spectacular.  I had 2 goals for Vegas – win big & come back not pastey white.  I accomplished 1 of the 2…I have some color.  We were in Vegas until Tuesday morning.  We really only sat by the pool, dined, had a few cocktail parties to go to (Matt was there on business for a big conference) and did some shopping.  It was pretty busy and I didn’t have much opportunity to really explore.  I’ll need to go back.  I will admit, the city is overwhelming.  As we drove the strip, I was SO attracted to all the lights, and kept thinking “oh, we need to go there..and there…and there too”.  It all looks so fun *sighs*  I think I’m the reason they have all those flashy lights, they get me.    Here is a picture of Matt & I on Sunday night before dinner, its of cell phone quality

C: do share!
M:  I almost had to leave the office w/o pants today

C:  Did you poo your pants or something?
M: Not quite

C: go on

M: I was at Eric’s office & had to use the restroom.  Its a single restroom.  And as I was sitting there, I saw a candle & thought I’d light it.  Well, the match started to burn my finger & while shaking it out, I dropped it….in my pants.  I was leaning over to blow it out, but it wouldnt’ blow out.  All I could think about was my pants were going to start on fire.  I could have stomped it out, but that would have required taking off my shoes, then my pants, then putting my shoes back on.  By then, my pants would FOR sure be on fire.  So I kept blowing, in a panic.

*insert muffled hysteric laughing by C*

M: I finallygot it out.

C: Do we need to buy you new pants?
M: No, they just have a burn mark..they’re fine.

moral of the story – never light a candle with your pants down.

While he Grappled…I frosted Cookies.  I’d much rather bake than frost, but I’m helping out our friend who owns the Colorado Cookie Company.  Its not the worst job in the world-I get to eat the cookies I mess up…Yum.

For being unemployed, I’m all of a sudden awfully busy.  I’ve been playing Accountant, Cookie Froster, & Personal Assistant.  I haven’t even been home to do anything around the house.  I bought an antique dresser on craigslist last week.  I really want to paint it & distress it, but that will have to wait I guess!

A new phrase has been coined in our house “a blender moment”.  Its the moment when just as you think anything else can’t go wrong, something does, and all you can do is laugh or cry.

The history: Matt has been SUPER stressed out with work.  He woke on Monday morning and said “you know what, I can’t control the stuff at work, so I’m going to make the choice to feel good about myself today.  I’m going to work out, eat good, and be positive”.  Part of the eating good was making a shake.  I guess the blender went around about 3 times and then just died.  Thankfully, he laughed, not cried.  But just when he thought nothing else could go wrong and he had made a decision to be positive…the universe threw him a curve ball.

We’re now VERY proud owners of a Magic Bullet.
