Childbirth Preparedness

Matt & I finished up our last of 4 childbirth preparedness classes last night.  Do I feel more informed?  Yes…

Here is what we learned:

Childbirth is a natural process & your body & baby know what to do – no sweat, just sit back & relax.

Encapsulating your placenta is when you have a 3rd party pick it up from the hospital.  They then grind it up & put it in pill form for you to ingest.  This should not be surprising or gross, because every other mammal eats the placenta – humans are the only ones who don’t.

Natural is the way to go, because an epidural or any other form of pain and/or induction medicine might kill you & your child.  Along with any other medical intervention – like breaking your water.

Childbirth is no-thang – out of the average 12 hour birth, the mother should only be in pain for 3 hours & 18 minutes of it.  If that’s the case, I don’t know why everyone looks exhausted after it & say it’s one of the hardest things they’ve ever done.

Breastfeeding is ideal – even if it isn’t working out for you, you just need to try harder because formula, much like medicine, MIGHT KILL YOUR BABY. It’s an absolute miracle my sisters & I are not only alive, but smart & productive members of society.

I figure how you decide to have your baby & what you decide to feed your baby is totally your own business, but please pass me the epidural – and put it on a heavy drip.
